From the first whistle Chile made their intentions known with a scoop into their opponents “D” resulting in a penalty corner. The Bajan ladies were unable to defend the penalty corner and Chile went ahead in the 2nd minute 1-0. This would set the tone for the game as the Chile side continued their dominance to end the first quarter 5-0. The young and inexperienced Barbadian players took a while to adjust to the pace of Chile’s game. However, the Bajan ladies appeared more confident as the quarters progressed resulting in Chile scoring their goals later and later in each quarter. Nonetheless, Chile continued on their quest to victory scoring 4 goals in the second quarter. By the start of the second half it was noticeable that both the players’ and their fans were defeated, however the girls continued to give of their best and the fans continued to provide their support. The 4th quarter saw Chile capitalize on their opponent’s fatigue and frustration scoring the most goals of any quarter of the game netting 6. The final score of 20-0 was no reflection on the young goalkeeper Ysobel Jones’ performance. Rather, she and her teammates each earned their very first cap in this game. Despite Guyana’s best efforts, the Canadian side continued their debauchery in the 3 and 4th quarters scoring 3 and 4 goals in each quarter respectively. The intensity remained high during the game, however, the Barbados team failed to capitalize on their opportunities when they penetrated the Guyanese defense. A total of 6 penalty corners in the game resulted in no additional goals. Worth mentioning is Barbadian Goalkeeper Tyrese Weeks who absorbed pressure from the Guyanese attacking players who looked threatening as they advanced into his circle.
