Question: How excited are you at the for the #FIHProLeague?

Kane Russell: Really excited. I think it is going to be an amazing event and for us, New Zealanders it is exciting to host all the top nations in the world. For us, we don’t get a lot of tournaments so it is going to be good for our fans and good for the public.

Q: What makes #FIHProLeague different from other events?

KR: Like I said, playing in front of the home crowd in New Zealand. That’s not something I have done in front of a top-nation before. Last big tournament in men’s happened in 2011. So, that’s probably the most exciting part.

Q: How much of a difference does it make to play at home?

KR: A lot. I mean, we have had a few tournaments with empty crowds. Sometimes it can get really hard to be excited for that but family and friends cheering for you will definitely get us up.

Q: How will your preparation be different for the #FIHProLeague?

KR: Well, it is a pretty short turn-around after the #HWC2018. We have a quick break and then we will get into our summer programme. Few of us will go to Belgium and Netherlands and compete in the tournament and then join back up for the second half of June.

Q: Is #FIHProLeague a topic of discussion with your family and friends?

KR: Yeah, certainly. I have told a few family friends and good friends that this is exciting opportunity to watch our team play for the first time in a while. I am expecting a good turnout.

Q: What do you like the most about the Women’s League?

KR: Yeah that is exciting. Cool for us because generally our women do pretty well and hopefully we will be supporting the winning women’s team.

Q: Who will win?

KR: Let’s hope New Zealand.
