As announced by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) today, Chilean player Consuelo de las Heras has been nominated as one of the six global ambassadors of the IOC “Believe in Sport” campaign, aimed at raising awareness of the threat of competition manipulation among qualified athletes, their entourage members and officials, while empowering them to make the right decisions.
Consuelo said how excited she is for the role: "Being part of this team and having the opportunity to be present at the Olympic Games means the world to me. It represents not only a personal achievement but also a chance to contribute to the Olympic spirit, promote fair play, and support athletes in their pursuit of excellence."
FIH President Tayyab Ikram said: “Sincerest congratulations to Consuelo de las Heras for being nominated as one of the six global ambassadors of the IOC “Believe in sport” campaign! Whilst this is a major achievement for her, this is also a fantastic recognition by the IOC of the efforts done by FIH and our hockey community at large to keep our sport clean and honest. Competition manipulation is hugely detrimental to sports and should be vehemently combated!”
Before the Games, these ambassadors will take part in topical webinars organised for all NOC (National Olympic Committee) continental associations, aimed at briefing all NOCs on the resources available and the educational measures needed for their Olympic delegations. In addition, they will support individual NOC and IF (International Federation) activities.
The six Believe in sport Ambassadors will be the face of the IOC social media campaign on Athlete365 Instagram, X and Facebook, empowering athletes, coaches, and officials with information about the Code of Conduct against Competition manipulation. Beyond the prohibition to fix any competition, the social media campaign is also a reminder of the risks of sports betting and calls upon the athletes not to leak any insider information related to their sport, as betting coverage is expected to take place on every Olympic event during Paris 2024.
At Games-time, the ambassadors will engage with all athletes, coaches and officials accredited for Paris 2024 at an educational booth at the Athlete365 House in the Olympic Village. Fun activities at the booth will include a spinning roulette linked to the different rules of the Code of Conduct. All participants will take home an exclusive Olympic giveaway, along with a better understanding of competition manipulation.
