Where in the world has our hockey-mascot superstar Stockey gone now? His mission: to travel the globe visiting all the nations who will be appearing in the Rabobank Hockey World Cup.
The first port of call is India, and Stockey couldn't resist paying a visit to the bright lights and sensational night-life of Mumbai.
This busy, glamorous city on the west coast of India is home to Bollywood and the Marathi film and television industry, so it was no wonder that our travelling megastar felt at home there. It is also the fifth most populated city in the world, with more than 25 million people living in the metropolitan area. The wealthiest city in India, Mumbai is also recognised as the financial and entertainment capital of India.
While in Mumbai, Stockey paid a visit to the Elephanta Caves, a network of sculpted caves located on Elephanta Island, or Gharapuri, in Mumbai Harbour. This historical site consists of two groups of caves—the first is a large group of five Hindu caves, the second, a smaller group of two Buddhist caves. The Hindu caves contain rock cut stone sculptures, representing the Shaiva Hindu sect, dedicated to the god Shiva.
When it comes to hockey, Mumbai is home to the Dabur Mumbai Magicians who play at the Mahindra Hockey Stadium. The team, which includes national hockey heroes such as Gurjinder Singh and Ravipal Singh, recently competed in the Hero Hockey League, finishing fifth.
After a sight-seeing tour of the city, Stockey decided to make a night of it, so our intrepid hero ventured into the 34th floor of the Four Seasons Hotel. At the weekend this venue is popular with pleasure-seeking Mumbai residents who flock to the open-air rooftop bar. Here, cocktails at sunset are popular, with the city's lights on one side, the sea on the other, and a laid-back crowd moving in between – by midnight Stockey was on the dance floor putting down the moves, much to the delight of the onlooking nightclubbers.
