For the second time is as many rounds, Pool B action was disrupted by heavy rain at the women's Samsung Hockey World Cup Qualifier in Rome to force a rescheduling of day five matches.

The day's play was abandoned with 9:21 remaining in Italy's clash with USA and the score locked at 1-1.

Heavy rain started falling four minutes earlier and it didn't take long for the pitch to become unplayable as large pools of surface water quickly covered the playing surface.

As a result, Italy's clash with USA will be finalised tomorrow at 10:00, with Ireland's match against New Zealand, originally programmed to be played at 20:30 tonight rescheduled to 11:00 tomorrow morning.

USA took an early lead before Italy responded with a well-constructed penalty corner variation soon after. USA attacked for most of the remainder of the first half with two great chances not converted.

The Italian defence was impressive into the second half and looked likely to deny USA an important win before the skies opened and players were forced from the pitch

In the one match to be completed on day five, Korea outclassed Azerbaijan 4-0 to maintain the top spot in Pool B.

Korea was never seriously threatened with two goals in each half more than enough to ensure they keep a firm hold on one of the top two spots in the pool.
