The Irish Hockey Association has announced the resignation of its Chief Executive, Paul Varian. Varian will taking up the position of President & CEO at Sport BC in Vancouver, Canada.
Varian was appointed the Association's first Chief Executive in November 2004 and has spearheaded the implementation of the IHA's four-year Strategic Plan (2003-07) during his two and half years in office. He will finish in his present role at the end of August, leaving the opportunity for new leadership to implement the Association's new four-year Strategic Plan (2008-12), which is presently in development.
During his time at the IHA, Varian has been instrumental in growing the Association's resources and activities and making its first four-year Strategic Plan a reality. Under his stewardship, the Association's revenues have doubled and its professional team grown from two to ten, enabling it to embark on important new work in high performance, participation development, coach education and competition reform.
Varian take over as Sport BC's President & CEO in September 2007. Sport BC is the Provincial Federation for all sport in the Province of British Columbia, Canada. The Society actively promotes the growth of sport amongst British Columbians by advocating for and providing service to over 80 sports organisations, including 64 Provincial Sports Organisations, encompassing some 800,000 British Columbians. The body will play an important role in maximising the legacy benefits of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games in British Columbia.
The FIH would like to congratulate Paul Varian in his new job in Canada and wishes him a lot of success with his new challenge.
