USA Field Hockey is pleased to name Andy Thornton as the Head Coach of the Men’s National Indoor Team. Thornton previously served as the Head Coach of the Women’s National Indoor Team and under his reign, led the US Team to a bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Venezuela last August and a silver medal in Argentina in 2008.

Thornton is in his eighth season with the University of Albany field hockey program and second year as the Associate Head Coach.

“I am excited to accept the position as the Men’s Indoor Head Coach and look forward to working with the Team,” said Thornton. “There are a number of experienced indoor players in this country and I hope to add to their knowledge of the game. I look forward to the challenge ahead.”

Replacing Thornton as the Women’s National Indoor Head Coach will be Denise Zelenak. Zelenak was appointed as the Junior Women’s Indoor Coach in 2010. She has served as the Head Coach at Drexel University since 1995 and in 16 seasons, has posted 166 wins and turned Drexel field hockey into a nationally ranked program.

“I am honored to be working with USA Field Hockey and heading up the Senior Women’s Indoor Team,” said Zelenak. “Recently coming from the Junior Indoor Program, I see great potential for growth and have high expectations for success on the international stage.”

Please help us in welcoming Andy Thornton and Denise Zelenak to the USA National Indoor Program. The Teams have a busy year ahead of them as they prepare for the Pan American Indoor Championships held in Puerto Montt, Chile, August 30-September 2, 2012.
