The hockey legend received his insignia at his home club of HC Bloemendaal immediately after his team's recent 4-2 win against H.C. Rotterdam. He was presented with his award by Tames Kokke of the municipality of Bloemendaal.
De Nooijer recently confirmed his retirement after glittering international career that spanned 18 years which saw him win two Olympic Gold medals (Atlanta 1996 & Sydney 2000), two Olympic Silver medals (Athens 2004 & London 2012) and earn a world record 453 caps. De Nooijer - dubbed the Johan Cruyff of hockey - also won Gold medals at both the 1998 FIH Hockey World Cup and the 2007 EuroHockey Nations Championships as well as two won seven FIH Champions Trophy Gold medal.
He was named FIH Player of the Year on three occassions, winning the award in 2003, 2005 and 2006. He has also had considerable success with his club, having won nine national titles as well as the Euro Hockey League in 2009, where he was named as the tournament's Most Valuable Player. He intends to play for Bloemendaal for at least one more season.
