Legendary Australia attacker Terry Walsh has been named Head Coach of the Indian men’s national team, Hockey India has announced.
The hugely experienced triple Olympian and FIH Master Coach was confirmed in the role on Tuesday (15 October), filling the position vacated by fellow Australian Michael Nobbs.
“Mr Walsh will provide the adequate guidance and motivation to the team”, said Hockey India Secretary General Dr Narinder Batra on Tuesday. “He not only has the experience but also has a vision to develop the senior men hockey team as a well-knit, professional unit.”
“The opportunity to head the Indian coaching team is extremely humbling,” said Walsh, an Olympic Silver medallist from Montreal 1976 and a world cup winner in 1986. “Coaching India must be regarded as the greatest challenge in the hockey world.”
