Match 4: Germany-Argentina 2-2
Germany and Argentina drew 2-2 in the first match of Day 2 at the Samsung FIH Champions Trophy, which is being played in Nottingham, England.
Argentina were far from being at their best in the first half, but still created a number of excellent scoring opportunities thanks to the creativity of Luciana AYMAR. However, it was the Germans who took the lead when Natascha KELLER finished off an superb passing move in the 21st minute. Argentina burst into life in the second period, and were soon on level terms when Mariana ROSSI drilled a powerful low strike into the bottom corner in the 41st minute. Argentina moved ahead two minutes later thanks to a penalty corner rebound from Noel BARRIONUEVO and seemed to be cruising to victory, but Germany found an equaliser through their captain Tina BACHMANN who fired into the goal with an accurate penalty corner flick.
The result leaves Germany on four points after two games, with defending champions Argentina on one point.
- This was the second draw in a row between Germany and Argentina at the Samsung FIH Champions Trophy after a 0-0 in 2009.
