FIH was saddened to hear about the death of former South African National Team Manager, Gary McLeod, who died in Port Elizabeth on 14 July 2015 at the age of 74 after a long battle with cancer.
Gary, a former goalkeeper, was one of South Africa's finest National Team Managers, improving the country's performance considerably on the world stage whilst also instilling a precedent for behaviour and sportsmanship among the players representing their country. He was renowned for his efficiency and his calmness under pressure, which proved vital in his role with the national team.
He was also known for his generosity. For many years he and his company provided funding and sponsorship for the national team and South African Hockey.
Gary forged strong relationships with many in hockey, gaining affection across the world. He was loved and revered in hockey circles and will be remembered with fondness and respect by countless people whose lives he touched.
Our thoughts and condolences are with the McLeod family and his friends at this difficult time.
