South Africa's men's and women's teams have booked their places in next year's World Cups after a pair of wins in the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in Pretoria.
The paths taken by each team was vastly different, with the South African women cruising through the competition to win the final 6-1 over Ghana and the men having to outlast Egypt in a penalty shoot out.
Both wins qualify South Africa for their respective World Cups in 2006 - the men's BDO Hockey World Cup in Monchengladbach, Germany, and the women's Samsung Hockey World Cup in Madrid, Spain.
The South African women were first to secure their World Cup berth with an easy win over Ghana.
Henna du Boisson and captain Lindsey Carlisle scored doubles for South Africa as they cruised to victory with three goals in each half.
Both teams had legitimate chances to win the men's title in regulation time, but neither to break the stalemate which sent the final to a penalty shoot out.
South Africa held their nerve in the shoot out, outlasting Egypt to qualify for the World Cup. Egypt have a second chance to make next September's event at the World Cup Qualifier in Chanhzhou City in China.
