Schubert played 180 international matches scoring 96 goals after debuting in 2003. Schubert was also a member of the first Australian men’s hockey team to win an Olympic Gold medal in Athens in 2004, he was also a member of the 2008 Bronze team in Beijing and the 2010 World Cup team in New Delhi. He was named FIH Young Player of the Year in 2003.
Schubert had had to a struggle with injuries over the last 18 months which had limited is availability. He said “I sincerely thank you all for the support over the past few years and I am grateful for the opportunities that have been given to me. Believe me when I say I gave everything I had, even after I did my Achilles, to play for Australia.”
Schubert plans to continue to play AHL for the next few years and also passed on his best wishes to his team mates by saying: “I wish all of you and the players all the best in the future, especially in the upcoming ISS and Champions Trophy and success leading into the World Cup in 2014.”
While Jacklyn McRae is a new face in the Hockeyroos team after debuting against Argentina in Canberra last year, Jacklyn went on to play 30 games over the last two years. This included the 2011 Champions Trophy.
Jacklyn said “I would like to thank Hockey Australia, the AIS, Hockey NSW and NSWIS for the amazing support and opportunities they have given me throughout my career. The friendships and memories I have will stay with me forever.”
