Russia 3, Canada 2
Russia earned a 3-2 win in today's FIH Champions Challenge 2 classification game thanks to a goal from Daria Vasilyeva with two minutes left in regulation. The goal lifted Russia into the fifth-place game on Sunday, while Canada will play for seventh place.
Canada got on the board early, with the 1-0 marker coming just seven minutes into action. Butt Russia took the 2-1 lead before the half, with the second goal coming on a penalty corner just two minutes before the break. The lead stood until Canada's Jessalyn Walkey put in the equalizer in the 49th minute. The deadlock stood until the dramatic finale goal.
The win was Russia's first of the tournament, while Canada, which had a strong start to the tournament will now play on Sunday to avoid finishing in last place.
Malaysia 7, Austria 0:
Malaysia's first win of the FIH Champions Challenge 2 came in grand fashion as the shut out Austria, 7-0. Malaysia will meet Russia in the fifth-place game on Sunday, while the winless host Austria will look to get its first win in the seventh place game.
Noor Hasliza Md Alli scored twice in the win. Her first goal came in the last minute of the first half on a penalty corner to give Malaysia a 4-0 lead. She followed up with the 5-0 goal in the first minute of the second half when she put in a penalty shot. The Malaysians scored another pair of penalty corner goals in the second half to bring the final to an overwhelming 7-0.
Siti Noor Hafiza Zainordin got credit for the shut out in net for Malaysia.
