The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Professor John Evan Atta Mills, a great hockey player and enthusiast welcomed the FIH President Leandro Negre, the President of the African Hockey Federation (AfHF) Seif Ahmed and members of the Executive Board of the AfHF to his office to interact with them.

In his remarks, His Excellency the President congratulated the AfHF and the FIH for providing leadership for the development of the sport he loves very much and for giving Ghana the opportunity to showcase its capability to host a World level hockey event. His Excellency encouraged the Continental and Global Federations to continue to strive for excellence and to maintain hockey as an Olympic sport.

The FIH President thanked His Excellency for granting him and the rest of the hockey family audience and for his kind words. He assured him that the leadership of the global and continental Federations will strive for excellence and the development of the sport. He paid tribute to the organizing capabilities of the LOC/GHA and expressed satisfaction with what he had witnessed.

The FIH President had earlier attended the Congress of the AfHF where Togo was officially accepted into the AfHF by Congress as its 17th member. The FIH President together with the AfHF President presented the membership certificate to the Togo representative at the Congress. The AfHF also presented an award to the FIH President during an Awards Dinner organized as part of the Africa Cup for Nations.

The FIH President attended the final matches and participated in the medal and colorful closing ceremonies.
