Pakistan finally produced the skillful attacking style of hockey they are known for to deny England an automatic berth in the 2006 BDO World Cup, with a thrilling 3-2 win under lights in Changzhou.
For England the loss would be a huge disappointment even though they still stand in good stead to qualify; although they face a tough match against Belgium on Wednesday which will decide either team's direct qualification via a semi final berth.
The Pakistan-England match was a direct contrast to the match played beforehand, with Belgium grinding out a 1-0 win in a very scrappy and low standard match against Canada.
The other match of the day saw the Egyptians win another thriller, scoring two goals in the final ten minutes to beat the not so lucky Irish.
The Egyptians celebrated like they had won the World Cup when they scored each of their goals, especially the third with two minutes remaining, and then after they defended a penalty corner after the fulltime siren.
Tomorrow's Pool B matches should prove to be just as exciting, with the Korea-New Zealand match at 6pm local time looking as tantalizing as tonight's blockbuster.
