A niggling pelvis stress fracture has seen Simon Child held back from travelling with his fellow Black Sticks players to Nottingham.
Child was named in May as part of the two teams selected by Black Sticks Coach, Shane McLeod, to play in the Four Nations tournament in Nottingham, England and then the premier Champions Trophy event in Monchengladbach, Germany.
McLeod says he is still hopeful Child will be able to join the team for the ABN AMRO FIH Champions Trophy, which starts on 31 July.
His replacement in the Four Nations tournament is his younger brother Marcus Child.
Nineteen-year-old Marcus was a member of the U21 squad that played in the Junior World Cup last year. He plays midfield / striker position and has been training alongside the Black Sticks Men in recent months.
Child says while he's excited to be going, he would have liked to debut alongside his brother.
Another late edition to the team is 22-year-old goalkeeper Hamish McGregor. A Kiwi by birth, McGregor has spent most of his life in Australia, only relocating back to Tauranga earlier this year to study. He caught McLeod's eye and was invited to a couple of Black Sticks Men's training sessions.
His performance secured him a place on the Four Nations side as back-up goalkeeper to Steve Graham.
Four players are set to make their international debut at the Four Nations tournament - Marcus Child, Hamish McGregor, Blair Tarrant and Stephen Jenness.
At the other end of the scale, Nick Haig is set to play his 50th international cap while away, and Brad Shaw and Steve Edwards their 100th.
