On the 22nd June 2013, Ireland star Nikki Symmons reached a magnificent landmark when she played her 200th international hockey match for her country.

Before the match, the versatile defensive midfielder was presented with a portrait to commemorate her phenomenal achievement of becoming not only Irish Hockey’s first ever double centurion but also the first woman in any sport to reach 200 caps.

In recognition of Nikki’s wonderful accomplishment, the FIH has put together a special video in which “Symmo” discusses her love of hockey, past memories, plans for the future and her international cricket career. To see the video, either scroll down this page or visit www.youtube.com/fihockey, the official You Tube channel of the International Hockey Federation.

Sadly the day did not end in victory for Nikki, with her Ireland team going down 3-2 to Canada at University College Dublin (UCD).

“It was a huge honour to receive my 200th cap in front of our home fans and was great to see so many familiar faces here at UCD. It was just disappointing though that we didn’t play particularly well as a team today.”

The Irish Hockey Association recently published a great interview with Nikki on their website. To read the story, please click here.
