Message From Tim Shannahan (CEO, Canterbury Hockey)

To The Hockey Community

In the wake of the Christchurch earthquake, Canterbury Hockey Association wishes to advise that all staff are safe and with their families at this time.

Fortunately they were all at Nunwick Park at the time of the earthquake, and while they experienced violent shaking of the offices and building there was no significant damage. The Canterbury Hockey Association office will be closed until further notice.

There are concerns for a number of the hockey community who are known to have been working in buildings that have collapsed in the central city.

The Canterbury Hockey Association is appreciative of the kind thoughts and offers of assistance that have come from throughout the country from the hockey community over the past 24 hours. Efforts are currently under way to determine the feasibility of the eight Canterbury teams that were scheduled to compete at the National Masters Tournament commencing this Sunday.

Message from Hilary Poole to the Hockey Community

We are relieved that Hockey New Zealand staff, Christchurch based HNZ Board members and National Squad players are known to be safe.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of the hockey community in Christchurch at this time and those involved in the rescue efforts.
