The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced the Pakistan Hockey Team management for Azlan Shah Cup Hockey Tournament. Olympian Khawaja Muhammad Junaid will be the Coach and Manager, while Olympian Ahmad Alam and International Ajmal Khan will be the Assistant Coaches. Former International Jan Muhammad also announced the Coach of Pakistan Women's Hockey Team for Asian Games Qualifying Tournament. Azlan Shah Cup Hockey Tournament will be held from 6-16 May in Ipoh, Malaysia. Australia, China, Egypt, Korea, India, Malaysia and Pakistan will take part in the tournament. Asian Games Women's Qualifying Tournament will be held from 11-30 May in Bangkok, Thailand. Hong Kong, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan will take part in the event.
President PHF Qasim Zia said in a press conference after the meeting that due to the security concerns in Pakistan foreign coaches are hesitating to come to Pakistan at this stage. Executive Board of PHF decided to hire Pakistani Coach and Khawaja Muhammad Junaid was the best choice. Qasim Zia said that Olympian Mansoor Ahmad submitted the review application regarding life ban on him by PHF and he apologized in the application. Executive Board has decided to call Mansoor Ahmad in next meeting and review his case. He said that Events Committee of PHF will submit the annual calendar of events within ten day.
The PHF Selection Committee has announced the 33 players for the training camp for Azlan Shah Cup Hockey Tournament. The players were selected after the good performance in 57th National Hockey Championship. The camp will be held from 22 April at the Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium Karachi. The final team will be announced on 28 April after one day trials and team will leave to Malaysia on 2 May.
The announced players are Nasir Ahmad, Imran Shah and Imran Butt (Goal Keepers), Zeeshan Ashraf, Sohail Abbas, Muhammad Imran, Wasif Siddique, Kashif Shah and Muhammad Ateeq (Full Backs), Waseem Ahmad, Muhammad Irfan, Fareed Ahmad, Muhammad Rashid, Sajjad Anwar, Muhammad Tauseeq, Amir Shahzad, Usman Tariq, Zaheer Ahmad and Zeeshan Ali (Half Backs), Rehan Butt, Shakeel Abbasi, Akhtar Ali, Muhammad Zubair, Abdul Haseem Khan, Muhammad Rizwan, Umar Bhutta, Waqas Sharif, Shafqat Rasool, Muhammad Bilal, Adeel Hussain, Shahzad Ali, Kashif Ali and Abdul Qayyum (Forwards).
