World Champion Netherlands nailed Spain (3-1) in the opening match of the BDO Hockey Champions Trophy, women here in Quilmes, Argentina on Saturday. The Dutch team confirmed its role as favorite and faced no major problems to take the three points against the Samsung World Cup semifinalist.
It took Netherlands only 11 minutes to score the first goal. It was Carlijn Welten who made the first goal in this event. Netherlands put the 2-0 on the scoreboard at the beginning of the second half when Naomi van As scored. Spain came back immediately and closed the gap to 2-1 thanks to a goal of Maria Romagosa.
At that moment, it looked like Spain was back in the match. The Spanish team looked desperately for the equalizer, but just more than five minutes to play, Kim Lammers ended the Spanish hopes by scoring the third Dutch goal.
Action here in Quilmes, Argentina continues on Friday when Japan meets Australia and host Argentina will face Germany.
