Former FIH president Juan Angel Calzado was presented with the Olympic Order in a ceremony on September 30 at a reception in Barcelona.

Mr. Juan Antoinio Samaranch Jr. presented the award on behalf of IOC President Jacques Rogge at the ceremony, which was held at the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona. Current FIH president Leandro Negre was also on hand to honor Calzado.

The Olympic Order is the highest award of the Olympic Movement, created by the International Olympic Committee in May 1975 as a successor to the Olympic Certificate. The Olympic Order is awarded to individuals for particularly distinguished contribution to the Olympic Movement.

The insignia of the Olympic Order is in the form of a chain with the front of the chain featuring the five rings of the Olympic Movement, flanked on each side by the an olive wreath.

Approximately 150 people attended the ceremony. Calzado was the FIH president from 1996 to 2001. Prior to that, he was the FIH Honorary Secretary General from 1984 to 1993. Calzado also enjoyed a successful playing career, capturing the bronze medal with the Spanish men’s national team at the 1960 Olympics in Rome.
