International Women’s Day is celebrated each year on 8 March and serves to focus the world on women’s rights.

It is a day to fight against bias, take action in the pursuit of equality and to celebrate women’s achievements.

Oceania Hockey Federation, through its Hook in4 Health program enables communities in PNG and Vanuatu to live well, learn well, and lead well through hockey. The program aims to empower women, girls and people with a disability, as well as men and boys, and their local communities to live well, learn well and lead well by removing barriers to participation in sport and physical activity and enabling learning, positive decision making, health, leadership and well-being opportunities while addressing gender inequality and sexual and reproductive health and rights issues in inclusive and dignified ways.

Today we celebrate  Jess Fatnowna, one of our Hook in4 Health Train the Hockey Leaders, who works with our partner Cairns Aspire to be Deadly to deliver Hook in4 Health Hockey leader training  in PNG and Vanuatu and who is a Cairns Regional Council Young Women of the Year Nomination.

‘Jess Fatnowna is an already experienced and skilled program mentor,’ Julie said.

‘Jess does not shy away from a challenge, and this tenacity sets her apart from peers. She consistently demonstrates a can-do attitude and will find a way to solve a problem.‘
