Japan became the lastest team to name it's 16-member team for the London Olympic Games. Highlighting the selection is the inclusion of veterans Akemi Kato, Rika Komazawa, Sachimi Iwao and Kaori Fujio, who will be appearing in their third Olympics.
Akemi Kato is the oldest player officially named to the women's hockey tournament so far. The 41 year-old is expected to be among a handful of team sports athletes in London over the age of 40.
Japan is a top-team team in the FIH World Ranking, and is the highest-ranked team that had to go through the qualification tournament process. Ultimately, Japan earned its place in London after defeating Azerbaijan in the final of its qualifier in Kakamigahara.
