Following Sunday's narrow 2-3 defeat against the men in Orange, Ireland men were comprehensively beaten 5-0 on Monday in Seville, Spain. Ireland conceded early goals which left them playing catch up against a Dutch side in full flight, playing sublime hockey.

Ireland suffered their first setback when Kemperman side stepped three Irish players along the by-line and found Teun de Nooijer at the back post for a simple tap in.

Roderick Weusthof made it 2-0 for Holland in the 12th minute with an unstoppable penalty corner drag flick which clipped in under the crossbar.

Great counter-attacking and combination play in the 23rd minute saw Floris Evers make it 3-0 when he had another simple back post tap in.

Stoic defending kept the Dutch at bay until the 60th minute when Rogier Hofman reverse sticked into the roof of the net over the advancing Irish GK, Iain Walker.

Bouwens made it 5-0 made in the 62nd minute with a counter attack combination that overran a depleted Irish defence.

Ireland had a chance for a consolation goal in the dying minutes with two successive penalty corners both of which were well save by the Dutch GK.

Although the score-line was disappointing after Sunday's performance, the experience gained by playing a full strength Dutch side will be of utmost future benefit.

In Sunday's match, Ireland took a 2-0 half time lead with goals from Timmy Cockram (10th minute) and Chris Cargo (33rd min) before the Dutch bounced back with strikes from de Nooijer (43rd), Wouter Jolie (45th) and Robert van Der Horst (61st).
