Spanish international hockey player Manel Terraza has been shortlisted for the first annual Invictus Award, a contest between seven athletes who are all in the running to win €50,000 for a special project of their choice.
The Barcelona-based 22-year-old, who represented Spain in the London 2012 Olympic Games and the recent Rabobank Hockey World League Semi Final tournament in Rotterdam, is determined to claim the prize money in a bid to develop an exceptional hockey project for children with special needs in the Barcelona area.
“My project, which is called ‘Special Hockey’, is about creating a league which is completely integrated into the national league system to give the opportunity to these kids who enjoy the training so much to compete”, said Manel in his Invictus portrait video, which can be seen by clicking the video screen above.
The award, created as part of the global launch of Paco Rabanne’s Invictus fragrance, will see the seven athletes from seven nations and seven different sports living together and facing sporting challenges. The aim is to convince internet users to vote for them in a bid to win the Invictus Award and the funds they need for their project. As well as the €50,000 up for grabs, the athletes are also competing for the chance to be the hero of the 2015 Invictus Calendar, which will be released in 2014.
Manel faces some serious competition, with extreme marathon runner Duncan Macrae (England), swimmer Maxime Bussière (France), dragon boat sailor Markus Zierke (Germany), water polo player Antonio Sangiorgi (Italy), footballer Michel Gurfi (Argentina) and jiu-jitsu martial artist Ricardo Carpentieri (Brazil) all in the running for the prize.
To win this award, I will do my best in every situation and every chance that I have”, continued Manel. “I will try to learn as much as possible and give my best”.
