The Delhi based Gian Singh Memorial Hockey Society recently organised an awards evening when FIH International Umpires Satinder Sharma, Virendra Bahadur Singh, Raghu Prasad and Anupama Puchimanda were recognised for their services to the development of Indian Hockey and Indian Umpiring.

Presenting the awards to the Umpires were Thakur Udhay Singh, Commander Nandy Singh (Olympic Gold Medalist in 1948 and 1952) and Amrit Bose (IWHF Secretary). Also present were India's greatest centre-forward Harbinder Singh (a triple Olympian) and the real Chak De coach, M.K Kaushik

Two of the umpires honoured during the awards evening, which was organised by FIH and AHF Umpiring Committee member Kukoo Walia, have recently received appointments to umpire at FIH World Level events during 2008.

Satinder Sharma's next international assignment will be at the Champions Trophy in Kuala Lumpur (MAS) at the end of this month. He has also just been appointed to the Champions Trophy in Rotterdam (NED) in June 2008, as well as the Olympic games in Beijing (CHN) next August.

Raghu Prasad is appointed to the Olympic Qualifier, due to take place in Auckland (NZL) in February 2008.
