Gold Medal Match
Australia 1 defeated India 0
Goals: AUS - Nikki Hudson FG 62m
Australia won the women's Commonwealth Games gold medal after a late goal to captain Nikki Hudson gave them a dramatic victory in the final.
In a match Australia controlled for the most part, the home team couldn't breach the Indian defence until a pass into the circle from Sarah Taylor from the left was spectacularly deflected high into the net by Hudson with just eight minutes remaining.
India began well and had a good chance to jump to the lead early , but that opportunity would become their best of the match as Australia gradually gained control.
A handful of penalty corner chances couldn't be converted as the home team struggled to breach the stacked Indian defence. However Australia persevered and were rewarded late in the match with the winner just as the match looked headed for sudden death extra time.
Bronze Medal Match
England 0 defeated New Zealand 0 (England won 3-1 after penalty strokes)
The bronze medal match between England and New Zealand had to be decided by a penalty stroke shoot out after neither team could break the scoreless deadlock in regulation and then extra time.
England goalkeeper Carolyn Reid was the hero, her two brilliant saves in succession to end the penalty shoot out giving her team their third straight Commonwealth Games medal.
Both England and New Zealand will be in action again at the end of April when the Samsung Hockey World Cup Qualfier starts in Rome.
