Hockeyroos ace Ashleigh Nelson netted Australia’s vital third goal in a 3-2 win over World Champions Argentina in the second of three Tests in Perth on Monday evening.

The 26-year-old West Australian’s goal earned the Hockeyroos their first win over Argentina since April 2011, when she again was the winning scorer in a 1-0 win in Sydney.

The Hockeyroos hit the ground running with three goals inside the opening quarter of the match, with Argentina’s Carla Rebecchi retaliating just once before the break before setting up a tense finish with a late goal from close range.

Adam Commens, Hockeyroos Head Coach, was pleased with the result and how his side had improved on their first Test performance.

“I thought the girls made good progress from the first game to the second", said Commens. "We executed circle play very well, particularly in the first half. I thought we coped with the challenge that Argentina threw at us; we knew that they were going to come at us hard and they did but we created some chances of our own. We were probably unlucky not to score a couple of times in the second half. It was a really positive performance and great to get a win against the word number two side.”
