The Hero Hockey India League (HIL) has sparked a massive increase in the number of people buying hockey sticks in India, according to a news story in the Hindustan Times.
A spokesperson for leading Indian e-commerce firm Flipkart has reported that sales of hockey sticks have grown by a staggering 90% in the past month, a figure which is being directly linked to the high profile television coverage provided by the HIL.
Experts have suggested that the continued exposure provided by the event may eventually lead to a “three to four fold increase” in the market sale of hockey goods, which is fantastic news for the sport in India.
