Great Britain overcame Poland 3-1 in front of a sell-out crowd of 1,250 at Reading HC in their penultimate game before their crucial Olympic qualifiers in Chile next month.
Jonty Clarke, who plays his club hockey at Reading, opened the scoring after eight minutes following some good work from Graham Moodie who eliminated three players and put a good ball across the face of goal leaving Clarke with a simple tap in. The Poles pegged the home side back when Tomasz Marcinkowski netted after some good team work.
Ashley Jackson converted a 42nd minute penalty corner with a drag flick to regain the lead and Niall Stott, who had just come on as a substitute, increased the lead to two goals with his first touch delaying his shot to push the ball coolly under the ÔÇÿkeeper.
Goal scorer Jonty Clarke commented after the match ÔÇ£We had a lot of possession and created a number of chances, but we weren't quite sharp enough in front of goal which is something which will hopefully come good in a couple of weeksÔÇØ. When asked about the all important qualifiers, he said ÔÇ£It will be a nervous time for us, but we have trained well and we should beat the teams who are out there. Ultimately, it will probably come down to a one off game and we will hopefully get the result we are looking forÔÇØ.
Great Britain plays Poland in their final match on Sunday before flying out to Chile for the tournament which begins on 1 March.
