Kenya Hockey Union is the lucky beneficiary of sets of floodlights from US based company, Musco Lighting Company, thanks to the Africa Hockey Federation who picked Kenya for the donation.

The Kenya Hockey Union's astro-turf City Park Hockey stadium in Nairobi will get a major facelift by the installation of the floodlights. The donation was realized over the weekend following a visit by the Musco Lighting Company top executives in Nairobi and had several meetings with the Kenya Hockey Union executive board led by the chairman Resham Singh Bains, the National Olympic Committee of Kenya officials headed by the chairman Dr. Kipchoge Keino who is also an IOC member and government representatives.

Addressing a press conference in Nairobi Musco's vice president Jeff Rogers said materials would be shipped into Kenya by 1 September and work should be complete before 1 October 2010. 'We expect the first hockey floodlight match by 1 October', Musco's President Joe Crookham assured the press at a briefing held at the National Olympic Committee of Kenya headquarters in Nairobi over the weekend.

Kenya was the Africa Hockey Federation's chose for the donation following its track record of the sport. 'Kenya was a powerhouse in hockey and we are interested in bringing back the glory hence our move to up the game' said Crookham. The National Olympic Committee of Kenya chairman Dr. Kipchoge Kenio thanked Musco for the offer. 'This upgrading would help Kenya prepare adequately for major events especially the 2012 London Olympic Games', said Keino.

Kenya Hockey Union chairman Resham Singh Bains explained that the installation of floodlights at the city park stadium translates to longer playing and training hours. This in itself will change and transfrom the sport in Kenya. 'City park hockey stadium with the floodlights will attract international teams and competition', assured Bains.
