Paul Revington, the new coach of the Irish Men's team, will run his first camp Sunday 25 in Dublin. Revington, who was announced to the Senior Coach position in November, moved over to Ireland from his home country, South Africa, earlier this month to officially take up the post.
Revington who touched down on Irish soil two weeks ago has been using his time to meet with staff, players and setting up home, however, this Sunday will afford him his first opportunity to have quality session time with the squad as he takes over the reigns. Paul is no stranger to the majority of the athletes as he took the chance to see them in action against Scotland last November during a three test series and from speaking with him it is clear that he is now excited about getting down to the job at hand ÔÇ£It has been two months since my last direct interaction with the squad, making Sunday a day I have been looking forward to. The squad will sit through a series of initial presentations in the morning and then enjoy their first phase on the turf together with me as coach in the afternoon. It is an exciting phase for the Irish Men's Squad who will build on the quality work done in previous years and look to develop an effective and penetrative playing style moving into the 2009 international season.'
High Performance Director, David Passmore also expressed his enthusiasm at the start of this new phase ÔÇ£Paul has settled in well and the New Year is a great time to start a new program, especially with three major competitions to look forward to this year. The new regime will bring a freshness to the group and stand them in good stead for the important 12 months aheadÔÇØ
The National Men's Squad will be training intensely over the next number of months as they prepare for what will prove to be a busy summer with three major international fixtures on the horizon:
25-28 June Senior Celtic Cup, Scotland
3-11 July Champions Challenge II, Ireland
1-8 August EuroHockey Nations Trophy, Wales
