The Executive Board of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) approved in its July meeting the new strategic directions of the world's governing body.

The new strategic plan includes hat the FIH adopts the goal of tripling the total FIH revenue by 2016 by:

  • developing the hockey product in order to build its appeal and accessibility
  • taking control of commercial rights
  • actively promoting a unique and consistent global profile for hockey

supported by:

  • strategic investment focused on revenue growth
  • effective structures.

In line with the new strategic directions, two working groups will be established: one to produce the action plan for the further development of the products of the FIH. The other to further develop commercial matters relating to control of rights, image, profile and brand. Both working groups will present a final report to the Executive Board in December 2009.

The FIH Executive Board also received a full update on the FIH World Cup 2010 in New Delhi, India and all other FIH World Level Events in the coming years.

All FIH Committee Chairs gave their report to the FIH Executive Board, as well as the five Continental Federations.

Regarding future tournaments, the decision was taken that the BDO Men's Champions Challenge I venue in Argentina will been changed from Quilmes to Salta.

The World Club Championship 2010 has been approved by the FIH Executive Board under conditions presented by the Competitions Committee in cooperation with the Marketing Committee.

The FIH Executive Board was informed that enough funding has been raised through different donations for the Zambia Project. A hockey pitch will be established in the new Olympic Training Center in this African country.

The next FIH Executive Board meeting will take place in December 2009 in Melbourne, Australia.
