Eurosport 2 and Eurosport Asia Pacific & Africa will be providing extensive coverage of this weekend’s Euro Hockey League Round 1.1 event, which takes place at HTC Uhlenhorst in Mülheim, Germany. No less than nine of the twelve tournament matches will be broadcasted live by the channels.
Eurosport 2 is received by over 32 million homes in 46 countries, while the broadcasts on Eurosport Asia Pacific & Africa will take the EHL to an even wider audience, hitting countries such as India, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and many countries in the African subcontinent.
Other broadcasters covering the event include Dutch webcasters Sport.nl and Germany’s SportKlub, while the Euro Hockey League website will be live streaming very match on www.ehlhockey.tv .The camera crews of the popular FIH Hockey Monthly show will also be present in Mülheim, so expect a future edition of the show to feature interviews with some of the tournament’s stars.
The Euro Hockey League Round 1 events take place over two weekends in October. Round 1.1 Mülheim begins on Friday 7th October and ends on Sunday 9th. Round 1.2 Brasschaat will take place in just over two weeks time, beginning on Friday 21st October and finishing on Sunday 23rd October. Each tournament will feature 12 of Europe’s finest club teams fighting it out in a bid to reach Easter’s stunning KO16 tournament, which will take place in The Netherlands.
The tournament at Mülheim will feature the teams that have been drawn into Pools B, C, G and H. Each Pool consists of three teams, with the two highest finishers qualifying for the Knock-Out tournament at Easter. The third-ranked team within each Pool will be relegated from the competition.
Host club HTC Uhlenhorst – a club that has been crowned European champions no less than nine times – will compete in Pool B where they will face Spanish giants Atlétic Terrassa and AHTC Wien of Austria. Pool C sees English champions Beeston HC pitted against Spain’s RC de Polo de Barcelona and Poland’s KS Pomorzanin Toru┼ä. Torun’s compatriots WKS Grunwald Poznan (POL) will do battle with Ashley Jackson’s East Grinstead (ENG) and Dinamo Elektrostal (RUS) in Pool G, while Dinamo Kazan (RUS) and Olimpia Kolos Sekvoia (UKR) will aim to overcome Teun de Nooijer’s HC Bloemendaal – the 2009 EHL champions – in Pool H.
