Thursday 21st August was a significant day in the build-up to one of the biggest hockey events of 2015 as it marked one year to go until the start of the EuroHockey Championships in London. The hugely anticipated event is certain to provide great entertainment both on and off the pitch as the top eight men’s and top eight women’s teams battle it out to be crowned the champions of Europe.

Tickets for the event went on sale last month at www.eurohockey2015.co.uk, and have been selling very quickly, with fans being drawn by the attraction of watch world-class sport in a family friendly and iconic setting - London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the central hub of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The EuroHockey Championships is one of a number of major events that will form part of a massive summer of sport in England next year, including cricket’s Ashes series and the Rugby World Cup.

“We’re very excited about the EuroHockey Championships 2015 and the positive impact it will have for hockey not only in England but globally”, said Andy Tapley, Chairman of the EuroHockey Championships 2015 Board.

“Planning for the event is going very well, and having gone on sale last month we now have confirmation of the extremely high levels of interest we have in EuroHockey 2015 from the hockey following around Europe. Added to this is the support from general sports and event fans in the UK after hockey’s prominence in the 2012 Olympics and this summer’s Commonwealth Games, showcasing what an exciting sport hockey is to watch.”

The event will be hosted at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre from 21 to 30 August 2015, and the surrounding park area will be turned into a Hockey Fan Park, providing a fantastic experience for fans of all ages. Like the Olympics, tickets are available in sessions, allowing spectators to pick and choose their games. In line with the family focus of the event, children’s tickets are available from only £1. At the last Championships in Belgium in 2013, a TV audience of 105 million tuned into the 230 hours of coverage across the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and beyond.

To mark the “one year to go” milestone, the EuroHockey 2015 website has launched some fascinating new pages including an ‘Understanding Hockey’ section, enabling newcomers to the sport to learn more about hockey and get the most out of the tournament.
