England Hockey captain Barry Middleton has been ruled out of next week's ABN AMRO FIH Champions Trophy after breaking his toe in a training match. He will be replaced by Bowdon forward Alastair Brogdon.
26 year old Middleton, who it was reported last week will move from Dutch club HGC to German side Der Club an der Alster for the 2010/2011 season, was struck on the foot by the ball during an uncapped practice match against Spain during the squad's training camp at Lilleshall last week. He will now miss the ABN AMRO FIH Champions Trophy in M├Ânchengladbach, Germany.
His replacement is 22 year old Bowdon forward Alastair Brogdon, who scored England's first goal in their 4-3 World Cup semi final defeat to the Netherlands in March.
A replacement captain for the tournament will be appointed once the team arrives in Germany.
