England Hockey: Following the Rabobank Hockey Champions Challenge, England head coach Danny Kerry has selected his squad for the Women's European Nations Cup to be held in Dublin from 14-20 August 2005.
ÔÇ£Following seven months of team development, and a recent period of tournament preparation, I feel I know the qualities of the individuals and the group under tournament conditions,ÔÇØ head coach Danny Kerry said.
ÔÇ£This knowledge and experience will prove vital as we enter our most significant tournament of 2006. We have managed the transition of the programme after the massive Sport England funding cut and enter the tournament eager to prove our worth.ÔÇØ
ÔÇ£I am delighted to have Alex Danson and Crista Cullen back into the squad following their absence from the Champions Challenge, and they will bring both playing and personality qualities to the group.
ÔÇ£Equally I am delighted for Sally Walton, who at the start of my tenure had no experience of senior international hockey, but has consistently performed, scoring important goals at every opportunity. If we continue to play for each other under the toughest examinations this group will achieve its goals.ÔÇØ
The winner of the European Nations Cup will gain automatic entry into the 2006 Samsung Hockey World Cup in Madrid, Spain. If Spain win the tournament, then the second-placed team will be awarded the qualifying berth.
