The great cross-border sporting rivalry that is England versus Scotland will be rekindled this winter at the National Indoor Arena (NIA) in Birmingham when the two nations clash on Monday 7 December in the lightning quick, six-a-side indoor version of the game.
The fast paced indoor game never fails to generate great excitement for spectators with plenty of goalmouth action, high scoring matches and top quality skills on show from some of the country's best players. The NIA has proved a great venue for the indoor game in the past and visitors to this event are certainly in for a treat with not one, but two big clashes as both countries' national men's and women's teams take part. The women's match is at 18:45 followed by the men's clash at 20:00.
Tickets for the event will be on sale from Tuesday 15 September from The Ticket Factory on 0844 33 88 000 and via the England Hockey website at www.englandhockey.co.uk/tickets.
Staying with the indoor game, in January 2010, England's National Indoor Hockey Championships will move to a new venue, the Trent FM Arena Nottingham. The culmination of the indoor league season for both the men's and women's indoor club championships and the under 16 and under 18 clubs and schools competitions, the National Indoor Hockey Championships is the biggest indoor hockey event in the country and in 2010 it gets even bigger as it moves from a one day event to two days over the weekend of 30 & 31 January 2010.
Speaking about the move to the Trent FM Arena Nottingham, England Hockey Competitions and Events Manager Stephen Barlow said, ÔÇ£2010 is an exciting year for hockey in Nottingham. We have the Samsung Women's Champions Trophy tournament at Highfields in July and we are looking forward to starting the year at the Trent FM Arena which will be another fantastic venue for the indoor game.ÔÇØ
Geoff Huckstep, Chief Executive of the Trent FM Arena Nottingham is also looking forward to hockey's arrival at the venue: ÔÇ£The Trent FM Arena Nottingham looks forward to welcoming the National Indoor Hockey Championships for the first time in January 2010. This event promises to provide very exciting and competitive finishes to some great tournaments.
ÔÇ£Hockey in England is on a high following the recent success of England's men's national team at the EuroHockey Nations Championships in Amsterdam so what better time to host such a prestigious event as the National Indoor Championships in the city of Nottingham.ÔÇØ
