Women's Premier Division leaders Canterbury left it late to take all three points at Slough. The game had been a 0-0 stalemate until the end of the match but an overtime penalty corner strike from Mel Clewlow gave them a 1-0 win.
Their lead at the top has extended to two points as Leicester lost for the first time since the opening week of the season, beaten 1-0 at Chelmsford.
Chelmsford joined Leicester on 13 points and were grateful to the veteran Tracy Willmore for the only goal of the game. Another seasoned player Mandy Gatherer scored four goals to help Olton to a 6-1 over Clifton which moves them up into second place.
Bowdon Hightown won the North derby at Doncaster 5-2 and Ipswich won the East Anglian derby at Old Loughtonians 4-1. Old Loughtonians and Clifton are now seven points behind the rest.
Men's Premier Division leaders Cannock won again but were made to work hard for the three points at Canterbury finally running out winners 3-2.
Surbiton move up to second thanks to a 5-0 win at Chelmsford who rued a weak stroke miss from David de Prez when the score was 0-0.
Third placed Loughborough had to work harder for a 3-2 win at Hampstead. East Grinstead achieved their best result since returning to the top flight with a 1-1 draw against fourth placed Reading, while Guildford and Old Loughtonians battled out a 0-0 draw in the other game of the day
