World Class Hockey Ltd: England drew with China 0-0 in the opening round of the women's KT Cup in Seognam, Korea, today in an effort praised by coach Danny Kerry.
England put in an excellence performance today against a side ranked fourth in the world, containing 13 of its members from the Athens Olympic Games, and which arrived in Seoul more than one week ago to prepare for the KT Cup.
England generated more penalty corners chances (6) than China (4) and generated more shots at goal, with Alex Scott hitting the cross-bar in the first 10 minutes, and a decision denying a penalty stroke following a penalty corner with only minutes remaining on the clock.
ÔÇ£I am delighted with the performance today. We arrived 48 hours ago, crossing 8 time zones, and played in 80 per cent humidity,ÔÇØ England coach Danny Kerry said.
ÔÇ£We matched China's physical tempo, and created more chances on goal. Our discipline and technique in team defence created a fantastic platform from which to consistently attack China, and we put into practice many of the areas we have been working on since January.
ÔÇ£We must improve in our technical abilities inside the attacking circle, and we must be able to repeat such disciplined and intense performances. The team could not have given more today and with that I am very pleased.ÔÇØ
