The European Hockey Federation (EHF) broke new ground at the weekend with the first official Continental Level 1 Coach Award, which took place in the Bulgarian capital city of Sofia.
The aim of the award is to give new coaches the ability to deliver safe, fun sessions in order to develop the basic skills and tactical knowledge of players 14 or under.
Head conductors Carel van der Staak and Norman Hughes lead the first official Continental Level 1 Coach Award, being assisted by Tomislav Jamicic and Antonio Antonov. Together they delivered an 18 hour seminar to a group of 22 aspiring coaches from Greece, Bulgaria and Macedonia.
The EHF Level 1 Coach Award covers various areas, including the basic rules of hockey, the roles of the coach, young player development and principles of play.
