Since our last report on Friday (25 January), five more exciting matches have taken place in the Hero Hockey India League. However, nothing has changed at the top of the table, with the ever impressive Delhi Waveriders continuing to lead the way.

The past few days has seen the Waveriders add another two victories to their ever-growing collection, with a 4-3 win over Dabur Mumbai Magicians being followed by a thumping 3-0 win over Jamie Dwyer’s in-form Jaypee Punjab Warriors. The results mean that the team from Delhi have now gathered a staggering 32 points from an available 35, with their only dropped points coming thanks to a 1-1 draw with Uttar Pradesh Wizards in the first week of the tournament.

Moritz Fuerste’s Ranchi Rhinos remain second in the table, having continued their good form by powering to victories over Mumbai (2-1) and Uttar Pradesh Wizards (1-3). The Rhinos appear to be the biggest threat to Delhi’s title challenge, and could draw level on points with the Waveriders by recording a convincing victory over their opponents when they meet this evening (Wednesday 30 January).

Ranchi Rhinos are seven points clear of third placed Jaypee Punjab Warriors, and ten ahead of Uttar Pradesh Wizards, who sit in fourth. Darbur Mumbai Magicians remain at the foot of the table, having gathered just seven points from their seven matches. The Magicians have lost all of their games, but claimed bonus points from each defeat as they lost by no more than two goals.

Magicians defender Sandeep Singh is currently the top scorer in the Hero Hockey India League. Sandeep has scored nine penalty corner goals in seven matches, putting him clear of Ranchi Rhinos striker Mandeep Singh, who has a six goal haul (five field goals / one penalty corner).
