The European Hockey Federation has named Russia’s Dmitry Ryazhskiy as the 2011 EuroHockey Photographer of the Year.
His photograph, "In Weightlessness”, was taken during the FIH Indoor World Cup Semi Final match between Russia and Germany. The image shows Germany striker Christopher Zeller airborne following a typically powerful flick towards goal from a penalty corner.
"The photograph is fantastic, beautiful, and inspiring”, said a delighted European Hockey Federation President Marijke Fleuren. “It really showcases the speed and skill of indoor hockey. It is a great choice and I wish to thank the Jury for their time in adjudicating the entries."
Dmitry lives and work in Elektrostal (50 km from Moscow), where he coaches the boys and young men at Dinamo Elektrostal. He will receive a cash prize and will be presented with the perpetual EuroHockey Photographer of the Year Trophy, which was donated to the European Hockey Federation by Morley Pecker
The EHF will launch the 2012 competition in the near future. Full details will be posted to www.eurohockey.org , the official website of the European Hockey Federation.
