Australia extend their lead to nine points after beating England 3-2
Table leaders Australia have scored within the first five minutes of their previous two matches. They also started with a lot of pace in this encounter and pressed England back into their half. Nevertheless it lasted 15 minutes before Simon ORCHARD took the lead when tipping in a shot from Jamie DWYER. Matthew SWANN doubled the lead soon afterwards, slotting a stray ball into the empty goal with the reverse stick as goalkeeper James FAIR was occupied by other Kookaburra attackers.
Ashley JACKSON cut the lead in half before halftime when he converted England's first penalty corner. But the powerful Kookaburras played on and increased their lead right away. Luke DOERNER benefited from Richard ALEXANDER's deflection of his shot into the English goal. DOERNER scored his 19th Champions Trophy goal which made him overtake his coach Richard CHARLESWORTH who scored 18 goals. The second half had chances on either side. Jonty CLARKE's 3-2 renewed hopes, but the Kookaburras secured their victory and stay first in the table.

New Zealand win their first Champions Trophy match in 32 years
New Zealand celebrated a surprise 3-1 victory over the Netherlands. The Black Sticks have not won their last 19 Champions Trophy matches.
New Zealand have lost their two previous games and had nothing more to lose. The Dutch had the better start in this match but could not make anything out of their opportunities. Simon CHILD scored for New Zealand out of the blue after he picked up a ball in the circle and tipped it in. Netherlands did not seem to be in this game, they lacked aggressiveness and passion. Andy HAYWARD converted New Zealand's first penalty corner and doubled the lead. Holland came back with Teun de NOOIJER's successful penalty stroke which made him tie with Sohail ABBAS who has also scored 40 goals in Champions Trophy history. The all-time leader is still Taeke TAEKEMA with 45 goals. Immediately after de NOOIJER scored the Blacks Sticks counter-attacked and Blair HILTON scored the 3-1.

Spain celebrate first victory after a 3-2 win over Germany
The Olympic Silver Medallists from Spain were the first team who were able to defeat Germany in the HockeyPark in Monchengladbach.
Spain are famous for their slow start into Champions Trophies. They won only one point in their first two matches. Today they put a lot of effort into the game while Germany were not as strong as usual. Pau QUEMADA gave Spain the lead when he converted a penalty corner. The ball went directly through goalie Max WEINHOLD's legs. Germany were down 2-0 at the beginning of the second half. Then it was QUEMADA again, he scored his 4th goal in this tournament and equalled with top scorer Luke DOERNER from Australia. Germany definitely had chances to score but they were a bit unlucky today, they were unable to score from seven penalty corners. Six minutes before the final whistle, youngster Florian FUCHS cut the lead in half but Spain struck back immediately. Roc OLIVA scored his first Champions Trophy career goal. Christopher Zeller answered 95 seconds before the final whistle to achieve a score of 3-2, but Spain played cleverly enough to secure their first victory in this competition.
