The team at the women's Samsung Hockey World Cup Qualifier judged to have best encapsulated the spirit of fair play will receive the Constance Applebee Fair Play Trophy.

When Appleby died in 1981 at the age of 107, friends Betty Schellenberger and Grace Robertson donated the trophy in her honour and it has been awarded six times since 1983.

Applebee is believed to have introduced hockey to the United States in 1901, when she worked at the Seven Sisters Colleges as a PE teacher during her holidays. She hailed from Hampshire in England but held dual British and US citizenship.

The trophy, awarded for the first time in 1983, has been won by: Australia (1983), Paraguay (1985), Scotland (1989), Japan (1993), South Africa (1997), Japan (2001).
