The Canadian Olympic Committee and Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee have released the names of former Olympians and 2010 hopefuls who will be participating in the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay across Canada. Among the names are some familiar faces to the hockey community, including a three-time Olympian, a pair of two-time Olympians, and five other individuals who have represented the national men's or women's field hockey team at previous Olympic Games:
Sharon Creelman represented Canada at the 1984 Los Angeles Games, 1988 Seoul Games, and 1992 Barcelona Games. She will be carrying the torch on 20 December in Queenston, Ontario.
Bindi Kullar competed in both the 2000 Games in Sydney and 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. He will be carrying the torch on 7 February in Chilliwack, British Columbia.
Another two-time Olympian, Sharon Speers, participated in the 1984 Los Angeles Games and 1998 Games in Seoul. She will bear the torch on New Year's Day in Iroquois Falls, Ontario.
Deb Whitten played with the national women's team at the 1992 Barcelona Games and will carry the torch on 5 February through Whistler Olympic Park in British Columbia.
Peter Motzek participated for Team Canada the only time this country hosted the Summer Games back in 1976 in Montreal. He will bear the torch on 9 February in North Delta, British Columbia.
Joel Brough, an Olympian with the 1992 team in Barcelona, will carry the torch on 1 December in Chicoutimi, Quebec.
Elizabeth Czenczek represented Canada at the 1988 Seoul Games. She will carry the torch through Chatham, Ontario on 22 December.
Anthony Wright competed with the men's team at last summer's Olympic Games in Beijing. He will carry the torch through North Vancouver on 10 February, two days before the start of the Games.
The Olympic torch relay began on 30 October in Victoria, British Columbia. The flame will travel 45,000 kilometers across Canada visiting over 1000 communities in all thirteen provinces and territories.
