South Africa 1 defeated Canada 0
Field Hockey Canada: Canada suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to South Africa in the fourth and final Test.
The match was a close affair, with both teams generating an equal number of attack penalty corners and shots on goal.
However it was the South African who were able to convert one of their opportunities in the fifth minute to lead 1-0. The score remained 1-0 until the final whistle, with the Canadians remained competitive throughout although unable to convert their chances.
This was the most competitive game of the series with Canada pressing throughout. Stephanie Jameson was outstanding in the midfield and despite several scoring attempts including one which deflected off the inside of the post, was unable to celebrate her 50th cap with a victory.
Azelia Liu made some strong saves in net for the second consecutive game and was ably assisted by the defensive unit.
After the match, the President of the South African Hockey Association paid tribute to the Canadian team commenting that they had played well above their current world ranking. The two teams look forward to meeting at the crossover matches in the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in March 2006.
The Canadians next match will be one of three played against the South African A side. The first game in this series is on Sunday November 27 at 7pm.
