Hockey Australia wish to express their condolences at the passing of Bruce Goodheart, OBE on August 14 at the age of 78.

Bruce was key to the development of what is now the Perth Hockey Stadium in Bentley, which is also the training base of Australia’s national teams. Bruce was instrumental in organising a 10-nation tournament which opened the stadium in 1979.

Bruce also served as chairman of WA Hockey Association, chairman of the Australian Hockey Association’s steering committee when Perth was host to the Champion’s Trophy in 1985 where he also served as a judge during the tournament.

Bruce assisted in growing the sport in WA, when hockey was introduced as an official sport in the Public Schools Association, Bruce co-founded the Hot Spurs hockey club in 1961. The club continues to nurture the development of young hockey players.
