Two time Olympic veteran Brent Livermore has suffered a stress fracture of the third metatarsal in his left foot.
The injury occurred during a practice match on Friday 6th June and will see him sidelined from 3-6 weeks.
"I copped a knock on my foot during our practice match on Friday night but at the time I didn't feel any pain so I continued to play. It wasn't until probably ten minutes later that I felt a dull pain so I took myself off and then iced and rested it over the weekend. It didn't improve at all so I went and had scans first thing Monday, which revealed the stress fracture." Said
His treatment will include a combination of magnetic pulse therapy, hyperbaric chamber sessions and low frequency ultrasounds for bone healing.
"It will be good to head back home to receive the support of my family, but more importantly it will allow me to receive some specialist therapy and tackle my rehabilitation head on. The research has shown that doing these things can help speed up the recovery process."
"I will still be doing my gym work as well as water running and boxing. So I truly believe that years of building up a strong fitness base will not affect my fitness levels or cause them to drop off during this time."
"Overall I think I have put a solid plan in place. I have received the full support of the coaching staff and the feedback I have received recently has been great. The coaches are showing full confidence in me and giving me every indication that I am still in contention for a spot in the Olympic squad."
Kookaburras coach Barry Dancer has shared
"Having discussed the situation with our medical staff and Brent I am confident he can overcome this injury as he is still well in contention to be picked in our Olympic squad." Said Dancer.
